Officer Tyler celebrates 40 years with SMITH

Officer Tyler celebrates 40 years with SMITH!

On September 08th, 1971 Oscar Tyler came to Smith Protective Services at 2100 Travis Suite 100 Houston, Texas and applied for a job as a Non-Commissioned Security Officer on a part-time basis.  At that time he was working full time for the City of Houston as a Truck Driver.  He has seen the evolution of the security industry in the state of Texas over the years, which affords him unique and insightful perspective on the work of a security officer.  Officer Tyler retired from the City in 1988, and became a full-time employee of SMITH, where he is currently holding the same post.  Officer Tyler is a model officer in his attitude, consistency and spirit.  He is adored by both client and colleagues for this consistency and willingness to, as officer Tyler says: “Keep things straight!”

Upon the occasion of Officer Tyler’s special anniversary, Smith Protective Services President Mark L. Smith had this to say:

“As I stated in my article on page 18 of the September, 2011 issue of Managing Security Today, there are basically two types of employees – those who have worked here for hours, and those who have worked here for decades. Long term employees such as Officer Tyler are a special breed – loyal, dependable, responsible, professional. They take their duties seriously, putting their responsibilities to the customer and the citizens at large at the forefront. I am especially proud and grateful that Smith Protective Services employs Officer Tyler and many others like him who bring credit to the industry they serve.

Officer Tyler was honored for his 40 years of Service at SMITH at a regional ASSIST meeting last week in the company of his wife and daughter – We are honored  to have tenured colleagues like Officer Tyler who make this family-owned business what it has been, will be and is today.
